Our steps to adopt are.
View our adoptable dogs online at hoodriveradoptadog.org . Complete and turn in an application if you see a dog you’d like to meet. We’ll be in touch to make arrangements for a meet and greet. MOST OF OUR DOGS ARE IN FOSTER CARE. PLEASE CONTACT US PRIOR TO STOPPING IN SO WE CAN HAVE THE DOG ON SITE. Adoption Meet & Greets are scheduled by appointment. Our winter Meet & Greets are Saturdays 9:00 – Noon.
If you have any questions please call us at (541) 354-1083 or email them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you are interested in a particular dog, we encourage you to fill out an application before visiting. Filling out an application does not commit you to adopting the dog nor does it guarantee an adoption will follow. It simply allows us to start the dialogue as to whether the dog and your living situation are a good match. You can complete the adoption application online here. You can also print out our adoption application , complete it and mail or fax it back to us. Our mailing address is 3910 Heron Drive, Hood River OR 97031. Our fax number is 877-833-7166. You can also pick up an Adoption Application at the Hukari Animal Shelter. You can find all of our contact information on our website.
After we receive your completed adoption application we will forward your information to that dog’s assigned Adoption Counselor. Generally you can expect a call back within 24 hours. The Adoption Counselor will apprise you of the dog’s status, discuss how the dog might fit into your household and when you might be able to schedule a meet and greet.
Please note that all references are checked. If we have an application ahead of time and are able to pre-check the references, the dog MAY be able to go home at the end of the adoption “meet and greet” with the potential adopter We will not complete an adoption until all references are verified. If we are unable to verify references the dog may be adopted to somebody else who more fully completed the process by the adoption meet and greet day.
It is REQUIRED that ALL people and dogs with whom the adoptable dog will reside do a meet and greet. The meet and greet is for the dog’s benefit as well the family’s. We need to see that the dog is comfortable and appropriate with and for all individuals in the family, for the best possible outcome.
- On occasion we have a high-demand dog that has many suitors. When we have multiple applicants we’ll choose the best match for the dog from those who have completed ALL the preliminary steps (filled out an application, done a full meet and greet and had references checked).
- Factors such as hours alone, methods of confinement, experience and needs of the particular dog – exercise, medical, and behavioral – are all considered for placement.
- An Adoption counselor will go over all the information in the dog’s adoption packet, and you will be asked to sign an adoption contract.
We always take an adoption photo, which, with the adopters’ permission, we post to our Facebook page. This is hopefully the start of a long and happy life together!
