Here are our steps to adopt.
View our adoptable dogs online at hoodriveradoptadog.org and turn in an application if you see a dog you’d like to meet. We’ll be in touch to make arrangements for a meet and greet. MOST OF OUR DOGS ARE IN FOSTER CARE SO PLEASE CONTACT US PRIOR TO STOPPING IN SO WE CAN HAVE THE DOG ON SITE. Adoption hours are Wednesdays, 5-7pm, and Saturdays, 9-11am (or limited by appt.).
Call us at (541) 354-1083, email to email@example.com, or visit if you have questions.
If interested in a particular dog, we encourage you to fill out an application before visiting. Filling out an application does not commit you to taking the dog nor does it guarantee an adoption will follow. It simply allows us to start the dialogue as to whether the dog and your living situation are a good match. Please download our Application (PDF), print, fill out and scan/email or fax it back to us. Our address is Hoodriveradoptadog@gmail.com. You can also pick up an Adoption Application at the Hukari Animal Shelter. All our contact info is on our website.
If you have expressed an interest in adopting a particular dog, we will forward your information to that dog’s assigned Adoption Counselor (AC). All our ACs are volunteers, but generally you can expect a call back within 24 hours. The AC will apprise you of the dog’s status, discuss how the dog might fit into your household and when you might be able to come in for a meet and greet.
References are checked. If we have an application ahead of time and are able to pre-check the references, the dog may be able to go home at the end of the adoption day’s “meet and greets” with the potential adopter — if the full process has been completed. If we are unable to contact references, there is a 24 hour wait or the dog may be adopted to somebody else who more fully completed the process by adoption day.
It is REQUIRED that ALL people and dogs with whom the adoptable dog will reside do a meet and greet. The meet and greet is for the dog’s benefit as well the family’s. We need to see that the dog is comfortable and appropriate with and for all individuals in the family, for the best possible outcome.
- For all dogs we take all applications leading up to and during the next adoption day. On occasion we have a high-demand dog that has many suitors. When we have multiple applicants, 30 minutes before end of shift we’ll choose the best match for the dog from those who have completed ALL the preliminary steps (filled out an application, done a full meet and greet and had references checked).
- Factors such as hours alone, methods of confinement, experience and needs of the particular dog – exercise, medical, and behavioral – are all considered for placement.
- The AC will go over all information in the dog’s adoption packet, and the contract is signed.
We take an adoption photo, which, with the adopters’ permission, we post to our Facebook page. Hopefully, all live a long and happy life together!
